What we do

A plan for the tendon and the demands placed on it

Pain on the outside of your elbow can make lifting a coffee cup, shaking hands, using tools, or working out surprisingly difficult. You do not have to play tennis to develop tennis elbow—and simply resting may not restore the strength you need.

At Sierra Spine & Fitness, Dr. Craig Roberts, DC evaluates the source of your elbow pain and builds a non-surgical plan that may combine diagnostic ultrasound, hands-on care, progressive tendon loading, and selected therapies such as shockwave. The goal is comfortable grip and dependable function.

Recognize the symptoms

What tennis elbow feels like

  • Tenderness at the outside of the elbow
  • Pain gripping or carrying
  • Discomfort lifting with the palm down
  • Pain using a mouse, tools, or a racket
  • Symptoms with wrist extension
  • A grip that feels weak or unreliable

Tennis elbow is also called lateral epicondylitis or lateral elbow tendinopathy. It commonly involves the tendon attachment of the wrist extensor muscles. Persistent cases can involve changes in tendon structure and load tolerance, rather than inflammation alone.

Confirm what needs treatment

A clearer picture of what is involved

Elbow pain can also arise from nerve irritation, joint problems, a tear, or symptoms referred from the neck. Your evaluation includes tenderness, grip strength, resisted testing, motion, and assessment of relevant wrist, shoulder, and neck function.

Diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound may help assess the common extensor tendon and nearby structures when the findings would guide treatment. We interpret imaging with your examination and recommend additional evaluation when needed.

Your plan

Build a clearer plan for your elbow

Make everyday loads manageable

We discuss practical adjustments to gripping, lifting, work, and training. The aim is to reduce repeated irritation while keeping you appropriately active. A temporary change in tool grip or exercise load may help make recovery more manageable.

Restore useful movement

Soft-tissue treatment and joint mobilization may address relevant restrictions in the elbow and forearm. Chiropractic care may be incorporated when examination identifies contributing problems in the wrist, shoulder, upper back, or neck.

Rebuild grip and tendon capacity

Your rehabilitation may include isometric loading, progressive wrist-extensor strengthening, grip work, and exercises for the forearm and shoulder. A FlexBar or Tyler Twist exercise may be included when appropriate. We progress toward the actual demands of your job, gym routine, or sport.

Additional therapies when appropriate

Non-surgical technologies, selected for your diagnosis

Focused or radial shockwave may be considered for selected chronic tendon presentations. Laser or EMTT may be considered as additional tools in appropriate cases. We explain the rationale and uncertainty before recommending them. The presence of several devices does not mean you need every therapy.

Focused & Radial Shockwave

Delivers acoustic or mechanical energy to the treatment area. Research findings for tennis elbow are mixed, so we discuss its potential role and monitor whether it adds meaningful benefit for you.

EMTT

Extracorporeal Magnetotransduction Therapy uses electromagnetic fields and may be considered as an adjunct. Non-invasive and comfortable over a tender tendon.

Laser Therapy

Red and infrared light energy may help manage symptoms in appropriate cases by supporting cellular activity and modulating pain and inflammation.

Diagnostic Ultrasound

Helps assess the common extensor tendon and nearby structures so care is guided by what is actually involved.

Care guided by advanced training

Experience that informs your care

Dr. Roberts graduated summa cum laude and as valedictorian from Western States Chiropractic College. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and a Diplomate in Chiropractic Neurology, with a background in strength and conditioning. Your care connects tissue assessment, nerve function, movement, and progressive exercise.

We track changes that matter: comfortable gripping, lifting tolerance, strength, and your ability to work or train. Those findings help guide treatment rather than relying on symptoms alone.
